Five card stud poker
is played online at only a few poker rooms. 5 card stud poker is
offered at all the Microgaming poker room faces; such as the
Golden Tiger poker (banner above). But they all feed into
the same poker room so I suggest playing at
GT or their sister site
Virtual City
poker
because I know the admin at
Casino Rewards and I can get you satisfaction with them much easier than
with the other Microgaming poker room faces. (Just in case we ever
need to go down that road).
How to win at 5 card stud poker
Winning strategy for five card stud poker is quite simple; but you
must show self-control and not allow yourself to chase a win.
This is for the higher stake games; at the $.50/$1 tables,
people will call all the way to the end. The higher up you go in
stakes; the more this strategy will work for you.
5
card stud poker is played in a very simple manner. You get
one card dealt out down, remaining four cards are dealt out face
up, one at a time, betting in between each card.
A pair of anything is usually a winner.
The way it works is; the high card showing starts the betting.
And they do bet; the whole idea is to chase off the other players
with lower cards showing.
For example; players ABC and D are at the table.
Player B has high hand showing with a King. Player B would then
bet and it's up to the rest of the table to decide whether they want to
call. Normally about half will call on the first round of bets;
unless you've an ace showing, Then most all will fold on the
first bet except someone that is really bad at this game; or
someone that has a pair; a hand better than the king you
have showing. (they also might have an ace).
Player B should still keep betting all the way to the end; and
then the way I play it is to check the last round of bets; in case
the other player does have a better hand; they can't raise
on me; but I ALWAYS call a hand showing: that is not
better than the one I have. Make them prove they have the better
hand.
Okay you say, I know all that. Get to the part
about how to win at five card stud poker!
well there it is; you've just read past it.
The secret to winning at this game is to NEVER chase a win.
Due to the fact that the ante for 5 card stud is so extremely low;
it allows you to see your first two cards for a very minimal price.
What a lot of (bad) players don't realize; is that is nearly
half your hand. If you don't have a pair or at least
an ace at this point in the game; you should fold the next
time someone bets and you are asked to call.
so
remember
-
make the other player PROVE they have the better hand - and don't
let the size of the bet; or raise; be the deciding
factor in whether you stay in the game or not: if you have a pair
or an ace; you have a good chance of winning that hand.
-
never chase a win. If you didn't get dealt an ace or a pair
to start the game. FOLD!!!
if
you follow those two simple rules; and play at table stakes big
enough to keep all but the dumbest and most dedicated chasers from
seeing every hand through to the end. I would suggest
at least $3/$6 tables and up.
Now where can you play this game? Currently the options are
limited. I look for this game to rise in popularity in the
coming two years, as more and more players realize that this
game is fun because of its speed from hand to hand, and because it
is an excellent bluffing game.
